Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Romans 12:10

Have you seen a recent example of devoted love? Here’s a couple of examples I’ve noticed over the last couple of years. I’ve watched a younger man stop everything in his life, including his corporate job to care for his wife who is battling cancer. If you asked him, I’m sure he would shrug it off, but Patrina and I have observed and admired his devotion to his wife. His sacrificial kind of love also displays his honor to her at his own expense.

Second, I’ve witnessed the care of parents for their children and grandchildren. Recently a couple of friends of ours have traveled out of state to care for their daughter and newborn granddaughter after a difficult and complicated delivery for both the mother and child.

These examples from the lives of believers echo the words of Christ –

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another”(John 13:34-35).

The people I mentioned above have been more than being devoted in times of crisis. Their expression of love today is just an extension of the lives of love they’re led for years.
