Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
Proverbs 3: 5-8
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment to your bones.
And we have all heard the encouraging words to trust the Lord with all your heart and avoid leaning on your own understanding and acknowledge Him in all your ways. But what was interesting to me was the verses that followed.
“Honor the Lord with your wealth
Proverbs 3: 9-10
and with the firstfruits of all your produce;
then your barns will be filled with plenty,
and your vats will be bursting with wine.”
What does trusting God have to do with honoring Him with your possessions?
I’ve been told the Bible contains some 2000 verses that concern the topic of money and possessions. In our world, perhaps nothing has a stronger hold on many of us than our bank account.
All of us are aware of how much money we have set aside or what we expect to come in through our work, but how many of us also lean primarily on our own understanding to manage our funds?
Is it possible to trust the Lord with all your heart and hold something back?
