Living in fear and dread?

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

1 John 4:4

This morning I listened to a clip on the subject of fear. This afternoon I encountered a young lady who told me she was still living in fear and dread of the coronavirus. Last week a man killed two Jewish young people in our nation’s capital. And the list could go on. It’s been another week of threatening actions across our world. For many current circumstances bring about feelings of despair, but we should be confident no matter what happens around us – if we remember the truth in the verse above.

On the other hand, if we’re honest, I think most of use would acknowledge that we have our share of fears – even when we know the truth of Scripture which reminds us that “the LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”(Psalm 27:1).

In many instances, we are unable to control our circumstances. Jobs may be in jeopardy. A broken relationship may seem beyond repair. We may worry about our health and you may have other things to add to the list, but what if we can remind ourselves of God’s care and love for us? What if we lived out the truth that He who is in us is far superior to any threat this world can offer?
