A good man

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Galatians 2:20

On Thursday Patrina and I attended the funeral of a long-time church friend and we listened with the others gathered there to honor this good man. He was a good father and grandfather. He was honorable in his dealings in business and was faithful in the church as a soft-spoken leader and mentor.

By all accounts, he lived what we may call a fruitful life and the particular fruit of the Spirit he exuded was goodness (Galatians 5:22).

He would disagree with anyone who called him a good person, but he would agree with Paul’s declaration in the verse above – “It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.”

I think that is where true freedom is found for any human being, surrendering to Christ daily is how we walk in the Spirit and are transformed into the person we are created to be.
