You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
John 8:44
This morning’s sermon centered on the idea of defending the Bible as God’s word because many people today, including some inside the church world, are doing their best to undermine the truth by rejecting the plain teachings of the Bible.
In the verse above, Jesus addresses the lies of the religious leaders who reject Him as the Christ. These influential leaders were doing their best to undermine Jesus’ teaching and because of their power and authority in the community they led people to ruin.
That’s the devil’s great desire. Peter warned fellow believers to “be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter5:8).
Evaluate the influential voices in your life. How does their message line up with the Christ of the Bible? Is it possible we are inadvertently believing a lie?
