For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. For each will have to bear his own load.
Galatians 6:4
When I think about the current season of my life, I view it as Autumn which happens to be my favorite time of the year where we live. Temperatures start to cool a bit and it is generally more enjoyable. The only problem is, we know winter will eventually follow. As far as the seasons of life go, I hope for a very long and fruitful Fall.
A physician friend struggled with his identify in retirement and mentioned to another physician that once he “was a doctor and now he’s a nobody.” His friend responded with, “but you were always Dr. Nobody.”
It was a lighthearted response, but I think as we enter the Autumn of our lives we tend to reflect on what we have accomplished in life and what we will do with the time we have left. The doctor above began writing novels and attempted to volunteer his time in a clinic in a town where he spent winters.
From a spiritual standpoint, it is important to take a step back now and then to evaluate our relationship with the LORD because the rest of life’s satisfaction or lack thereof is rooted in this primary relationship.
Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind.”
Psalm 26:2
Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.”
Proverbs 4:26
