The grass withers, the flower fades,
Isaiah 40>8
but the word of our God will stand forever.
Every season of life has it’s purpose for us just as the different seasons experienced by different people in the Bible help us learn by their response.
After Moses died, Joshua entered a new role as leader of Israel as they finally began their conquest of the Promised Land. As he prepared to lead, God told him to “be strong and very courageous” –
Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1: 7-9
Joshua leaned on the word of the Lord and when faced with temptation in the desert, Jesus did the same in response to Satan –
“‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
Matthew 4:7
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
And when the early first faced persecution from the local religious leaders and the Roman Empire, Peter reminded them of Jesus’ example-
For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.
1 Peter 2: 19,21
The Bible provides a firm foundation for our lives. Whatever season you may be experiencing at this moment, there is a lesson to be learned found in the lives of others from Scripture.
