They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.
Jude 4(b)
Jude begins spelling out the specifics associated with the false teachers inside the church. Specifically, he addresses those who misuse God’s Grace as a kind “get out of jail free card” – a license for immorality of any kind. In the process they deny the person and the work of Jesus Christ.
Notice that even though he preferred to “to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. Jude understood the importance of confrontation when the truth is at stake. Consider Francis Schaeffer’s quote below –
Truth always carries with it confrontation. Truth demands confrontation; loving confrontation nevertheless. If our reflex action is always accommodation regardless of the centrality of the truth involved, there is something wrong.
– Francis Schaeffer
What is more dangerous to our faith? An outright lie or a half-truth? First it is important to note that both are dangerous, but the half-truth is a more effective technique for deception – ask a politician.
This is the method that has compromised many in the church in the name of evolving with the culture that maintains that Truth is relative. We commend ourselves for believing in Christ while we end up embracing the doctrines of men and ignoring the life that comes from God.
