What’s right in front of you?

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”

Colossians 3: 23-24

Living life to the fullest is about earning to take risks and that idea certainly applies to the life of the follower of Christ, but sometimes those risks are found in the ordinary lives we lead.

When you think of your life, consider this quote from Oswald Chambers.

“Have you ever realized that you can give things to God that are of value to Him? Or are you just sitting around daydreaming about the greatness of His redemption, while neglecting all the things you could be doing for Him? I’m not referring to works which could be regarded as divine and miraculous, but ordinary, simple human things – things which would be evidence to God that you are totally surrendered to Him.”

As Paul writes, “whatever you do” refers to everything we do, not necessarily the “divine and miraculous.” As Chambers writes, it is time that we take advantage of the opportunities right in front of us…”ordinary, simple human things.” Everything we do – not everything we daydream.

Today is a time to act – whether we are at work, or with our family and friends everything is intended to pursued and accomplished as if it is for the Lord. And if we choose to act, there will be times of deep joy and a sense of companionship with the people around us – but we will also experience periods of exhaustion and disappointment along the way.

What “ordinary, simple human things” will you do today?
