Worthy ambition, never modest.

It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation. Rather, as it is written: “Those who were not told about him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.”

Romans 15:20-21

What kind of ambitions do you have for your life? Where is your focus five or ten years ahead? Paul had a simple ambition, to go where no one had gone before him and make Christ known. His goal? Paul wanted those who had not heard to understand the good news of the Gospel.

Ambitions for God, if they are to be worthy, can never be modest.

John stott

According to Stott, “Christians should be eager to develop their gifts, widen their opportunities, extend their influence and be given promotion in their work — not now to boost their own ego or build their own empire, but rather through everything they do to bring glory to God.”

Many may think that the term Godly Ambition is a contradiction of sorts, but the problem is not with ambition, but with motivation. Too often I think we settle for less because we are unwilling to take a risk. Stott says we should be eager to accomplish more with our lives and since we’re starting a new year, why not now?
