I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Romans 12:1
Have you ever wondered, What does God really want from me? More effort? More discipline? More religious activity?
According to Paul, what God wants most from you… is you.
In Romans 12:1, Paul urges believers to “present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” This verse is about Lordship—but not in a cold or mechanical sense. Lordship isn’t about performance. It’s about relationship. It’s about surrendering ourselves to the One who has already given Himself for us.
God is not simply asking for better rule-keeping. Every religion has rules. Christianity is different at its core. It is rooted in grace and relationship.
Think back to the Garden of Eden. God walked with Adam and Eve. He wasn’t looking for performance; He desired fellowship. Even after sin fractured that relationship, God took the initiative. Through His Son, He made the ultimate sacrifice to restore what was broken. The cross proves that God wants more than compliance—He wants communion.
Maybe you’re tired of performing. Tired of trying to measure up. Tired of doing all the “right” things while your heart feels distant.
Romans 12 offers a better way. Surrender is not about losing yourself; it’s about finally becoming who you were created to be. When we place our lives in His hands—our ambitions, fears, habits, relationships—He begins a steady work of transformation. Over time, our lives begin to look more like His.
