In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 1: 6-7

It’s easy to say “I trust God”. It is much more difficult to live it out when you face the challenges of life. The truth is that most of us want to trust anything but God. We trust our wealth or our intellect or our abilities to solve our problems. After all, we know best – right?

Have you every questioned why your circumstances are not really working out as you planned? Do you trust God or are you blaming God?

In the passage above, Peter writes to people who are truly suffering. He doesn’t deny their circumstances, but he does emphasize the benefits of trials. It is those trials of life that often reveal the “genuineness of your faith.”

Trusting God requires you accept the truth that God knows what’s best for you. Trusting God produces genuine ope. Consider these verses.

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”

Isaiah 45: 1-3

“Behold, God is my salvation;
I will trust, and will not be afraid;
for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation.

Isaiah 12:2
