From of old no one has heard
or perceived by the ear,
no eye has seen a God besides you,
who acts for those who wait for him.

Isaiah 64:4

As we have surveyed the book of Isaiah for the last few weeks, we’ve read of God’s judgment and mercy and the promises of the Messiah. Much of what was prophesied regarding Jesus has been fulfilled, but still we are waiting for all of the promises, aren’t we?

As in Isaiah’s day, our world is quite broken and hopeless for those who have no faith in God. The headlines in our news feeds can be disconcerting. We hear of threats from various corners of the world and I, for one, don’t understand how everything exactly fits together. Even when I think I have something figured out, circumstances change again or a new detail is revealed.

The verse above reminds us God’s plan is better than what we could imagine and so we can be encouraged that there is a God “who acts fro those who wait for him.”

In context, waiting means to trust fully in God’s promises. And so we are waiting for the day when God will make all things right again.
