When You’re at a Loss for Words

Read: Romans 8:26-27

The Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how we should pray, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes on behalf of the saints according to God’s will.”

Reflect:

Today I spoke with a man who runs a restaurant chain about the pain his staff is and will experience now that his business is limited to carryout. Later in the day, I spoke with another small business owner who is facing difficult, but necessary decisions in order to keep his business afloat in a time of “social distancing” to help minimize the spread of disease. In both instances, I listened and offered very little – outside of some empathy.

Have you ever been at a complete loss for words? Have circumstances left you completely helpless and alone?

At those times when we come to the end of ourselves, many of us will fall to our knees before God. Where else can we turn? And then words fail us.

Psalm 34:18 reminds us that “God is near the brokenhearted.”

Romans 8:26-30 tells us that at those times God’s Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf. God understands our groanings. He understands. He listens. He is faithful.

Respond:

What in your life is bearing down on you today? I have my list and I am sure I am not alone on this one. Take your list and place it before God. Remember and believe the words from the verses above,
