Last month a survey asked how I considered my position within the corporation that employes me. While I’m grateful to have the job and feel valued by my the first two levels of management, the commitment to me on the global level is likely as deep as my territory number or employee number. This isn’t a negative at all, but there are thousands of employees across the world. In the corporation’s view, I’m an employee. Nothing more. Nothing less.

How different things are with God! Out of the millions and millions of followers of Christ, God calls me His son. He knows my name. He knows my strength and my weaknesses. Still, He calls me son.

And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons?
My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord,
nor be weary when reproved by him.
For the Lord disciplines the one he loves,
and chastises every son whom he receives.

Hebrews 12:5-6

Consider the encouragement of that idea in the verses above.

• A son takes the discipline of the LORD seriously.
• Instead of growing weary, a child stays under the discipline of the Father.
• Remember discipline is a sign of the Father’s love for us.
