Faith, hearing and the word

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Romans 10:17

I was in college when I saw Chariots of Fire and it was the first time I could remember seeing a believer in Christ depicted in such a compelling, positive way. Eric Liddell was a deeply committed Scottish Christian who had the courage to stand for his convictions of faith ahead of anything else, including his country.

Liddell would go on to win a Gold Medal in the 400-meter race and then made his way to China. As he departed at the train station in his hometown, Liddell is quoted as saying –

“Christ for the world, because the world needs Christ!”

Eric liddell

Eric Liddell understood the message from the verse above. Faith in Christ can only come through hearing about Christ from the Scripture. Those who say this is an outdated model have been around for a long time….

“For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”

1 Corinthians 1:22-25

The world needs Christ and Christ is for the world, so how might you begin the build the faith of someone who needs to hear?
