No Time to Lose

Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

Romans 13:11-14

When I read this passage again today, I was reminded of a song written by Andrae Crouch more than thirty years ago. The bridge went something like this –

"I've got no time to lose,
I've got no time to waste.
I've got no, no time for living in sin."

It’s a simple verse that reinforces Paul’s message in the passage above. Evidently, at least some of the people were a bit complacent in their faith, so Paul reminds them of a few simple thoughts himself-

  • It’s time to wake from any kind of spiritual sleep
  • Every day brings us closer to Christ’s return
  • “Remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living” (NLT).
  • Walk daily as followers of Christ, and don’t allow any of this world’s darkness to creep into our lives.

The past eighteen months have provided plenty of opportunities for the church and for individuals to wake up and demonstrate what faith in Christ looks like. When the world is enveloped in fear, we are to be examples of hope by our example.
