So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
John 10:7-10
Nearly every day I am faced with some doors that refuse to open. Some healthcare facilities are still closed to people like me (pharmaceutical reps). And then there are those office gatekeepers that block my path to the prescribers.
How does one gain access? On one occasion today it meant texting a doctor and meeting him outside of his facility in the parking lot. These days we do what we can.
Thankfully, when it comes to faith we always have direct access through Christ.
When the people failed to grasp his parable, he stated his claim more clearly this time. He is the Door. Later John would record His claim to be “the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).
So Jesus is the only door. Every other door is false. Everyone who claimed to be the Messiah before Him was false. Every “savior” since Jesus’ resurrection is just as false. And behind all of the false doors is a real enemy, a thief “who comes to steal and kill and destroy, to rob you of your very life, but Christ wants only the best for you, now and in our eternal future.
There’s no time like the present to search for the true abundant life – life to the fullest.
