Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

Hebrews 10: 23

Over the weekend, we helped our oldest son and his wife moved into a new place he’s been renovating for some time. We positioned several of the appliances in the new place and let’s just say it was important to have a good grip because the appliances didn’t assist.

On the other hand, I remember carrying our little kids to bed after they had fallen asleep after staying up a little too late on a weekend. As I carried them upstairs two of the three would hold on tight. The third was so relaxed or asleep that she didn’t hold on at all. It was a good feeling and I knew they felt safe (at least for the moment).

The second “let us” statement in the tenth chapter of Hebrews encourages each of us to hold on tight to our hope. We are not to let go – even for a moment. James 1: 8 reminds us that a man who wavers is unstable in all his ways.

We don’t hold on to a denomination or a fellow follower of Christ. When we hold on to anything or anyone other than Christ will be disappointed.  Instead, we hold on to Christ Himself for “He who promised is faithful.”

God doesn’t waver. His promises are true because “it is impossible for God to lie, (so) we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us”(Hebrews 6:19).

God is able to carry us. We just need to hold on tight.
