Do as I say and act…?

Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4:9

Could you confidently ask others to put into practice “all you have learned and received from me?”

Paul’s challenge is more than imitation, it is a call to action. We are to respond. One hundred and thirty years ago, Charles Spurgeon wrote that imitators of God –

“Do not only meditate upon God and think that you have done enough, but go on to copy what you study. Meditation is a happy, holy, profitable engagement, and it will instruct you, strengthen you, comfort you, inspire your heart, and make your soul steadfast. But you may not stop at meditation. You must go on to imitation of the character of God. Let your spiritual life not only bud and blossom in devout thought, but let it bring forth fruit in holy action.”

Charles Spurgeon

Paul wants us to watch and learn and then put it into practice.

Today you and I will “act” in our own way. Will anyone be able to see that we are imitating God by the way we live?
