One of us

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:1-5,14

John’s introduction of Christ isn’t read as often at Christmastime, but even though he doesn’t describe the narrative like Matthew and Luke, his message is clear.

Jesus literally put on flesh and walked with His creation experiencing the same kinds of pain, weariness, loss, and temptation.  He knows and has compassion for us. And today He is still with us.  The writer of Hebrews tells us –

Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:14-16

I believe this passage speaks more than simply the temptations we face. God’s Word reveals a Savior who is with us and for us.  Lean on that truth today.
