Whatever you do…

I live before the audience of One-before others I have nothing to gain, nothing to lose, nothing to prove.

Oz Guiness

Throughout my career, I’ve mostly worked alone in my day-to-day activities, meaning that I work from my car as my office and drive from one physician’s practice to another and so I’ve been aware of the kind of quote represented by Oz Guiness above.

It is the same sentiment expressed by Paul in the passage below –

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.  And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:15-17

It is that focus of honoring God with our lives that drives many of us I hope and I think we find a few additional insights in the preceding verses.

  • We are to experience and live the peace of Christ (v.15).
  • We are to live with a grateful heart toward God (v.15).
  • We are to immerse ourselves in the things of Christ as we lead others (v. 16).
  • We should have a song in our hearts (v.16).

When those elements are part of our lives, it is difficult to avoid the outcome of performing only to the Audience of One.
