Closing the gap daily

“The way we dress, the way we smile or scowl, the way we carry ourselves, the tone and content of our speech… Every day, we are always making statements to those around us about what really matters and what life truly consists of..Even so, however mature we are in our faith and however much we close the gap, there always remains more to do.”

Alistair Begg

This weekend’s devotional reading included the quote above from Alistair Begg and as I begin yet another week interacting with people in the workplace, at home, and with friends that there is still sometimes a significant gap between what I know to be true and the way I carry myself. How about you?

Last week I saw a man from a particular faith. You might ask how did I know? His faith was evident from what he wore from the top of his head to the bottom of the coat he wore.

You can’t always tell who a Christian is by the manner of dress, as Paul reminds us in the verse below, it is a matter of our manner of life.

Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ…

Philippians 1:27

Personally, I find the comments Alistair makes about how “we smile or scowl…the tone and content of our speech” most interesting and sometimes convicting. Is there a general smile on my face or am I too focused on the task at hand? What about the tone of my words?

Let’s think of how our lives can continue to close this gap this week.
