1 Corinthians 11:1
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
A couple of years ago, Patrina and I went to listen to an outdoor concert at a nearby park to hear a Neil Diamond cover band featuring a psychiatrist friend of mine. He played lead guitar, but the lead singer did a pretty good Neil Diamond imitation. If I closed my eyes and just listened it was well done.
Like in the single verse above, Paul encourages the readers of most of his letters to imitate him as he imitates Christ. In his letter to the Philippians, he expands on this thought: “What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you”(Philippians 4: 9).
“There are rare Christians whose very presence incites others to be better Christians. I want to be that rare Christian.”
AW Tozer
This is our challenge, today and every day. Are we inviting others to follow Christ? Are we striving to be that rare type of person described by Tozer or are we the kind of person that might drive people in the opposite direction?
