Single-minded pursuit in 2024

But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

Philippians 3:7-11

As the new year begins, many of us will want make personal commitments to get into better physical shape, lose a few pounds, make a career change, renew or restore relationships or any number of resolutions for 2024.

This morning Patrina and I were able to attend church and catch up with family and friends in London, Kentucky. As part of the his challenge, the pastor encouraged the people to make 2024 a year to pursue Christ above everything else.

Paul never needed such a new year’s resolution. In the verses above, Paul states his complete devotion to Christ and the loss of everything else in the process.

As we begin this New Year let us follow Paul’s example of pursuing Christ above all in all that we do in 2024.
