Grace, Mercy and Justice

Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you,
and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you.
For the LORD is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for him.

Isaiah 30:18

How many people hold the view that God is watching every move we make just waiting for us to make a mistake? While it is true we will ultimately face God’s judgment (Hebrews 9:27), the verse above reflects the heart of God.

Instead of waiting for us to fail, the “LORD waits to be gracious to you.”

I am reminded of Peter’s words –

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

2 Peter 3:9

Instead of judgment, the LORD wants to “show mercy to you.”

God provided the path to mercy –

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

Finally, Isaiah reminds that “the LORD is a God of justice.”

Our world is full of injustice, but in the end God will right every wrong. So, those who wait and trust in the LORD, are blessed because of His mercy and grace.
