Focused, intense or something else?

Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.

Titus 3: 1-2

Monday was a pretty difficult day in some ways. In fact, when I wrote this Monday evening, I forgot to schedule the posting, so this is a day late.

On Monday, I worked on a few projects that required attention to detail and I was more than a little focused. Some might call my “focus” intense (many others have) and what if my “focus” is too intense?

Every day we interact with people who have not been reached by the Gospel, so how should we reflect Christ to our world? In this brief passage, Paul instructs Titus to remind believers to be good citizens. Today, he might encourage believers stuck in traffic to drive courteously. Or maybe we should just be kind to the person in the drive-thru window. Feel free to add to the list.

Next, he addresses our conversation. Recently, I’ve experienced a bit of frustration with some situations in the workplace, but that is no excuse for speaking evil of people, is it? How would the people you see day in and day out describe you? Would an “outsider” to the Gospel describe you as gentle? courteous?

We have a significant responsibility to live our lives so that Christ is glorified and outsiders take notice. Think of one or two ways you can make a difference today and then put it into action.
