“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

Matthew 7: 13-14

Earlier today Patrina and I drove through a little over thirty miles of winding roads through the Black Hills of South Dakota. One of the roads is called the Needles Highway because of the topography of the mountains and the tight mountain curves. The roads include some very narrow tunnels including the Needle’s Eye Tunnel, a short tunnel that is just 8 feet wide and a little over nine feet tall. It’s a tight spot for many vehicles and it reminded me of the quote from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount above.

Many of the people I speak with today have a broad view when it comes to faith in general. I hear phrases like, “It doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you believe something” or “I am a spiritual person so I try to be a good person.” What have you heard?

Notice how these thoughts are in direct opposition to the statement made by Jesus in the verses above. Jesus is saying that all roads actually lead to death with the exception of the narrow gate that leads to Jesus alone.

Avoid the other roads. They are literally dead ends.
