And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Hebrews 10:24-25

After arriving home this afternoon I was reminded of the need for believers to live in community with others. In the opening chapters In Genesis, the Lord said, “It is not good for man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18). From the very beginning, God showed us that we were created for relationship. Isolation isn’t God’s design for anyone, and it’s especially dangerous for Christians.

Hebrews reminds us of the importance of gathering together so that we can encourage one another and stir one another up to love and good works. We grow stronger when we walk alongside other believers.

It echoes the wisdom found in Proverbs 27:17:

“Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another.”

Being sharpened isn’t always comfortable. It happens through encouragement, accountability, honest conversations, shared burdens, and sharing life together. God uses others to challenge us, strengthen our faith, and help us become more like Christ.
