What are you looking forward to?

For out of Zion shall go forth the law,
and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
He shall judge between the nations,
and shall decide disputes for many peoples;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war anymore.

Isaiah 2:3b-4

This afternoon I spent some time with some old friends who will be visiting their oldest daughter and family later this week. Even though they don’t have specific plans, they’re looking forward to the trip.

In the passage above, Isaiah prophesied about a day not yet realized. He saw a day when God’s throne will be established. My Reference Bible puts it this way – “The people of all the nations of the earth will finally understand that the God of Israel is right. He is the one true God, and the Gentiles of the earth will flock to Jerusalem to learn from the Lord. His teaching will reach the world from Jerusalem.”

When that day arrives, the world will finally experience real peace. For nearly all of my life, and yours, there has been war in various parts of the earth nearly every day. Before the internet, we learned of conflicts on the evening news or on the radio, but today social media keeps us in the know about every event around the globe and so we can’t really escape the violence, can we?

But there will be a day when all is made right. I’m looking forward to that day.
