Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:28-31

Have you ever felt alone in your circumstances – I mean really alone so that you even wonder if God is responding or paying attention? Even when we know better, the emotions of the moment can affect the way we respond to others and the LORD.

The verses above should sound familiar. Maybe you’ve joined in as the congregation sings the words –

they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
Teach me Lord, Teach me Lord to wait.

The words are intended to give us confidence. Because God does not get tired and His understanding is beyond our understanding, we can depend on him.

As I type these words on my computer, I am reminded of a number of areas in my life where I am quite literally powerless and I’m also more than a little tired, how about you?

My reference Bible makes the following observation that applies for me –

“The response in the passage is a reminder that God is unchanging and sovereign over all things. All power ultimately comes from Him. Human effort will fail, but those who rely on the Lord will always be supported to do His will.”
