Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:2-4
On Sunday, the pastor of the church we attend here in Goodyear, used the imagery of a waiting room to set up his sermon. I was reminded that for more than thirty years I spent hours and hours in the waiting room of various doctor’s offices around Greater Cincinnati. I remember more than one patient who commented on my patience while waiting for a few moments of a doctor’s time. I’m not that patient in most areas of my life.
But in some respects, life is a waiting game, isn’t it? Especially, during trying times. I’ve been sitting in a few “waiting rooms” for years now, waiting for God to answer.
I made note of this comment from Pastor Ron on Sunday – Pray that God changes my heart before my circumstances.
That’s the message James is sending in the verses above. The testing of our faith should produce steadfastness and being steadfast in our faith will bring maturity in our faith.
So, what are we to do while we wait? We lean of God and the Truth found in His Word and we do that by not only reading, but applying Scripture in our daily lives.
