For behold, the LORD is coming out from his place
to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity,
and the earth will disclose the blood shed on it,
and will no more cover its slain.
In that day the LORD with his hard and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.

Isaiah 26:21-27:1

I love a good action/adventure movie or story because most of the time the stories convey how good ultimately triumphs over the evil. For me, it doesn’t matter if it is a Western, a Spy Thriller or Sci-Fi, it’s the story of how light defeats darkness.

C.S. Lewis observed “that myths are not false stories, but a true reflection of God’s story, after a late-night conversation with J.R.R. Tolkien and Hugo Dyson in September 1931.” It was that observation that eventually led to Lewis’ own conversion to Christianity and his own contributions including The Chronicles of Narnia.

In the passage above, we read how “in that day” the LORD will once and for all “punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.” In Revelation, John clarifies the identity of “the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan.”

So, the next time you see the good guys win on television or in a movie, remember it is a shadow of something much greater that will take place when the LORD makes all things right.
