Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
Romans 12:12
I don’t know who first said it, but this thought is worth holding onto: “If you only pray when you’re in trouble, you’re in trouble.”
Trouble comes in many forms. Right now, I’m facing some interpersonal challenges on a couple of fronts. I also have friends walking through chronic and devastating illnesses. Others I know are grieving deeply, trying to make sense of life after the loss of someone they love.
Trouble comes to all of us—but it is not the end of the story.
In Romans 12:12, Paul gives us a simple yet powerful way to live in the middle of life’s कठिन seasons: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” These aren’t just nice words—they are anchors for the soul.
Joyful in Hope – Our joy is not rooted in our circumstances, but in our hope. Because of Christ, we know that what we see is not all there is. Even in the hardest moments, we can hold onto a deep, steady joy because God’s promises are secure and our future is certain.
Patient in Affliction – Patience doesn’t mean pretending things aren’t hard. It means trusting that God is at work in the middle of the hardship. When we remember that He is in control and that our suffering is not wasted, we can endure with a quiet strength that only He provides.
Faithful in Prayer – Prayer is not meant to be our last resort—it is our lifeline. In every season, not just in crisis, we are invited to come before God. Prayer keeps us connected to Him, aligns our hearts with His, and reminds us that we are never alone in what we face.
Whatever you are walking through today, take heart. You are not without hope. You are not without help. And you are not alone.
Hold on to hope. Be patient in the struggle. Stay faithful in prayer.
God is present, and He is working—even now.
